OH!! So close. Imagine making the right point for all the wrong reasons.

I've seen this shared on many sites, but I could only screenshot one.

The implication here of course is that 42 million people are committing fraud because that makes a ton of sense. Can it be that there are 42 million people in this country who cannot afford or even access food even though we are fully capable of feeding everyone but we just won't?

I know this country is much kinder than this. I have very conservative, very liberal, and in between neighbors who will give you the shirt off their backs to help you. I also know this country is a hell of a lot smarter than this and know that there are so many different reasons people need benefits. Most folks are a paycheck or two away from needing help to begin with. All this does is play into fears of the "other" and it's cowardly and has absolutely nothing to do with leadership or governing and everything to do with collecting and maintaining power.

So the culprit here isn't simply fraud. There are several... it's the lack of fair wages, it's the fact that there are inexplicably nearly 200 billionaires in California, and roughly 760 billionaires in the US. and their tax rates end up being less than teachers and nurses. It's the fact that we don't help our small farmers, we neglect older communities and let them flounder in favor of newer, more profitable developments creating food deserts. I could go on because the systems that exist to fulfill basic human needs are complex and cannot be distilled down to the lie that it is a moral failure to need help. It isn't. We're human and life can be hard and unfair. Sometimes we need help. Any politician who can't or won't grasp that point doesn't belong in office.
